We were privileged to hold the first Māori Kiwifruit Growers Incorporated AGM at Whareroa Marae on Friday, 24th November. It has been 12 months since we met and confirmed support for the forum at Te Kaha following establishment hui in Tauranga. `
We as your executive committee members were charged with the forming the forum based on the principles of:
• Kotahitanga – Te Iti, Te Rahi
• Mana Whakahaere – Influence, leadership, leverage, decision making
• Whai Hua – Opportunities, value, better decisions
With a clear purpose for MKGI to build and grow the Māori Kiwifruit business for current and future generations, we have made significant gains on your behalf albeit in a relatively short time. These achievements include:
• Establishing and strengthening relationships with Zespri
• Similarly with NZKGI and KVH
• Securing operational funding support from Te Puni Kokiri for 2 years
• Identifying the current Māori supply base to Zespri
• Improving communication of industry developments and updates to Māori growers
