Zespri Chief Executive Dan Mathieson was formally welcomed to the job with a Pōwhiri at Whareroa Marae in Tauranga last month. Dan explains it was a real privilege to be welcomed on to the marae by kaumatua Kihi Ngatai and whanau. “The New Zealand kiwifruit industry is all about relationships. Building strong connections with Māori is really important to us, as we grow the industry together to meet future demand and increase the value we bring to New Zealand.” Being welcomed with a Pōwhiri was such a special experience – I’m grateful for the hospitality we were shown and look forward to working with our iwi partners.”
